Giants, Titans, Gods, Plumed Serpents, The Fallen…

Little did Carl Bergstrom know that the strange fossil
he unearthed in the Montana badlands would lead him to
a lost history, the dim memory of which spawned primordial
myths for humankind. But after fumbling his academic
opportunity, Carl meets a mysterious, little man who gives
Carl a choice between failure and new possibilities of
discovery, including about Katherine, an attractive, though
aloof professor of chemistry. Though initially clueless about
the risks he is assuming, Carl learns that there are other,
darker forces in the world, also searching for ancient
technology associated with the Elder race, who left a
legacy, and a choice for those discovering their secrets.

Just finished reading this book and found it was very engrossing and with some very interesting science facts included. The way the author mixed together the story and the science was outstanding. I lost allot of sleep reading this book. Hope to read more of this type from the author.

Titanea Philip C Cory 9781466444041 Books Reviews

Philip Cory has put together the legends of the past with some findings of the present to create a great adventure story about the future. This book is fun to read and is filled with ancient lore from many cultures that are woven into a story of intrigue, mystery and some romance. Interesting characters and ideas pop up throughout the story giving the reader lots to think about. It was fun to follow the main characters and their gradual realization of the meaning of their findings. The author clearly knows a lot about these ancient stories and has put them together so that you go away with the feeling that it might all be true. Well written, well researched and a fun read that leaves you wanting to know more.
This was an entertaining, intriguing read--a combination of Indiana Jones and Da Vinci Code, coupled with Egyptian/Tibetan mysticism, hints of the occult, and a dragon thrown in for good measure. The periodic table, paleontology, and legendary mythologies from ancient cultures all intertwine here. The book has some exciting adventure writing, a humorous, sweet banter between the two main characters, and offhand musings of gentle wisdom that will make you smile. And some great words that I hope will find their way into the Oxford English Dictionary. You may want to google some of the more obscure references made by the characters...they are fascinating sidetracks. The author has done his homework.
There are a lot of books out there that have the same general theme—people find an ancient artifact/ancient esoteric information, go on a hunt for more information, and the story proceeded to outline a secret history of the world that ties together and explains a whole lot of ancient lore and ancient literature—the Greek and Egyptian Gods, the Pyramids, and other Mystical sites around the world, ancient, secret Orders guarding sacred sites and ancient esoteric knowledge, etc.

This book does a better job than most of presenting this type of tale. I like the story, and the characters the author has created, plus the philosophy outlined by the author.

However, there were several annoying and jarring holes in the story.

**SPOILER ALERT**

Things that bugged me

In the first instance, the protagonist, a paleontologist, discovers the skeleton of an intelligent, upright, clothed lizard in rock formations millions of years old, and has to decide whether to release the information about this world-shattering discovery or to suppress it, as his academic superiors wanted him to do.

The author had his character say that “he had made his decision” which, from a couple of other things said in passing, was apparently to release this information. But, then, we hear no more about what it would seem would be a cataclysmic event, a world-wide sensation effecting everyone on the planet, our world-view, and all fields of knowledge—paleontology, the study of evolution, and world history included.

Moreover, after this time, as the paleontologist moved around the world, met people and told them he was a paleontologist, no one recognized him or his name, as one would expect if he had released such a cataclysmic discovery, whether it was considered to be good science and true, or as sensationalized pseudo-science.

In another instance, the author presented a major character, out of nowhere, that the protagonist had apparently met and had significant interactions with in the past (that it appeared the author assumed that we had been told about, but hadn’t been).

Later on, as well, the protagonist produced an ancient 12,000 year old? paper map out of his pocket (not super-duper, extra special, alien, damn near eternal writing material, but paper), with no explanation to explain its history, or why he happened to have it.
This book grabs you from start and never lets up. Dr. Cory weaves a captivating adventure story full of intrigue, mystery, romance, murder, and mayhem, all with an underlying philosophy of hope and salvation. The book is written with such a solid basis in real science that you are never thrown off, but you're rather transformed into a reality beyond reality. No matter what genre you're into, you'll love this book.
Titanea was a great read. If you like Ancient Aliens this book is better, no aliens required. This is true classic Sci-Fi that posits the origin of our civilization and possible destiny of mankind. Well researched and detailed description of an “Elder” race of beings that guided our destiny, along with secret sect’s that give our main character Carl a run for his money. Overall entertaining and thought provoking. Just make sure you get the second edition as the first has some typos. The ending appears to be set up for a sequel- we can only hope.
An enthralling scenario a pastiche of the politics of academe admixed with palaeontologic and archaeological facts and pseudofacts woven together by a master wordsmith into an ultimately believable story - a great read.
A frustrated paleontologist finds an impossible fossil then embarks on a worldwide search. No spoilers. But recently I read an article that asked if previous advanced civilizations were possible that predated the dinosaurs. Bah of course not scoffed the scientist writer. No evidence has been found... yet.
